For 2 weeks, the Palace of Culture hosted the Municipal Classic Chess Championship "Open-2023" organized by the Cahul Chess Center and the Cahul City Hall. And on March 12, at the end of the event, the mayor of Cahul, Nicolae Dandiș, handed the winners their well-deserved diplomas.

During the championship, heated battles took place at the chessboards, in which 10 of the best chess players fought for the title of champion of the municipality of Cahul. These 10 chess players from small to large are: Mocanu Andrian, Movilă Marc, Doncev Alexandru, Munteanu Stanislav, Bondarev Veceaslav, Crasnopiorov Alexandru, Ciobanu Victor, Dermanchi Andrei, Doncev Andrei, Cornev Serghei.

After 9 rounds of play:

• 1st place - Crasnopiorov A
• 2nd place - Ciobanu V. 
• The third place was the most fierce battle between 3 people: Dermanchi A, Munteanu S. and Bondarev V. who accumulated 5 points each and it was necessary for all three to play additional. And in the end, Dermanschi A. ranked third. 
• 4th place - Munteanu S.
• 5th place - Bondarev V.

Printre premianții speciali al acestui campionat a fost și cel mai tânar șahist Mocanu A. vârsta de 9 ani care s-a întrecut cu cei mai experimentați și puternici șahiști și a ocupat locul 6, iar cel mai vârstnic șahist Cornev S. vârsta 69 ani, jucător care regulat practică jocul de șah. Deasemenea aplaudăm celorlalți participanți: Doncev Andrei, Doncev Alex și Movilă Marc, care sunt debuntanți la acest campionat și doar le-a lipsit puțină experiență ca să arăte un joc stabil și puternic dar sunt pe merite în lista celor 10 cei mai buni șahiști al mun. Cahul.
