The list of activities that will take place this year in Cahul - Youth Capital 2024

In 2024, the Youth Capital is Cahul. On this occasion, until the end of the year, several activities for young people will be held in the city, including workshops, competitions, conferences, cultural evenings and a career fair. We present the complete and detailed list of them below.
Launching activity "Cahul - Youth Capital 2024" (March 16)
The launching activity will include cultural, informative and entertaining workshops, supported by various local associations and institutions. During the event, the Cahul City Hall will present the program of activities dedicated to young people for the year 2024. The day will end with a concert.
ICT4Women (February-March)
The program focuses on facilitating access to education in the fields of IT and marketing for girls and women in the Cahul region. Through online courses and regular meetings, the organizers aim to provide at least 30 participants with knowledge and skills in digital marketing, promoting gender equality and diversity in the digital industry.
ICT4Youth (February-March)
The initiative proposes to develop an IT career guidance program for students in grades 9-12 in the southern region of the country. The program includes free webinars with speakers from various IT companies in the Republic of Moldova and visits to these companies. Its goal is to support the development of students' IT skills, guide them in their careers, familiarize them with the IT industry, and inform them about opportunities in the field.
Small Grants Program for Youth (February-May)
The program is designed to encourage the involvement of young people aged 14 to 25 from Cahul municipality and district in solving community problems. Thus, initiative groups consisting of three people will be able to propose projects with a direct impact on the quality of life of young people. The best projects will receive grants worth up to 15,000 lei, and the result of the program will be the provision of 26 financial supports for approximately 78 young people actively involved in community life.
“Bring Your City to Life” Mural (March-August)
The downtown paint-by-numbers mural activity will offer young people the opportunity to explore art and develop their creativity. A visible central wall will be chosen as a support, and approximately 50 participants will be selected through a public announcement. They will have access to a set of colors and brushes, guided by numbers indicating how to color each area. Note: the mural design will be determined by a drawing contest organized in advance.
Training "The Minor and His Identity", for students from six high schools in the RDS (March-April)
The training will last four hours, with the objective of providing knowledge about democracy, about the freedoms of young people, about restricted legal capacity, about the right to work, about emancipation, about documents and personal property to students from grades VIII-XII from six educational institutions in the districts of Cahul, Cantemir and Leova. It will be facilitated by teachers and students with experience in Law from the "Bogdan Petriceicu Hasdeu" State University in Cahul.
Information campaign "EU-RM Relations" in 20 public institutions in the Southern Development Region (March-October)
The campaign will include information sessions about the European Union, which will be held in at least 20 educational institutions in the Cahul, Cantemir and Leova districts. Its objective is to increase the level of knowledge and understanding of topics related to the EU and its institutions, as well as the subject of the accession process of the Republic of Moldova to the EU. Over 2,000 young people from the Southern Development Region (RDS) will benefit from these information sessions.
Participatory Budgeting for Youth (March-November)
In 2024, it is proposed to allocate an additional fund exclusively for young people aged 14 to 35 in Cahul municipality, with the aim of promoting their involvement in local governance and community development. This initiative aims to create quality programs to support youth participation, bringing innovative projects to address the specific challenges of this age group.
Tech Career Expo (April 3)
The IT Career Fair is intended for students in grades 9-12 in the southern region of the country. Its goal is to motivate and guide young people towards professional growth opportunities in the IT field. The event will feature 10 IT companies that will provide information about careers, internships and technologies. Participants will also be able to engage in five workshops on technological trends, led by specialists in the field.
Roundtable "Innovation and Entrepreneurship" (April)
The event represents a support of the local public administration for young entrepreneurs by sharing successful practices in entrepreneurship and supporting them. Approximately 30 young people will participate in the discussions, who will address issues related to the development of the entrepreneurial spirit and the skills necessary for starting a business or managing an independent activity.
Eco-solutions ideas competition "Save the planet" (April)
The competition aims to stimulate the creativity of young people and involves the development of several concrete, sustainable solutions to stop pollution and environmental destruction in Cahul municipality. 25 young people will participate in the activity.
Workshop "Property Law and Cybersecurity" (April)
The workshop "Property Law and Cybersecurity" aims to inform 40 young people from educational institutions in Cahul municipality about the legislation on intellectual property, cybersecurity and personal data protection. Through interactive activities and practical exercises, participants will learn to protect their rights and data exposed online, acquiring practical skills in managing aspects related to property and cybersecurity. The workshop will be moderated by teachers of the State University of Cahul and members of the Inotek organization.
Workshop "Initiating high school and college students in STEM activities" in 10 high schools in the RDS (April-May)
The "Bogdan Petriceicu Hasdeu" State University of Cahul will organize trips of teaching staff to moderate workshops in 10 high schools in the southern region of the country, with a focus on STEM education (science, technology, engineering and mathematics). The topics covered will include the peculiarities of a scientific experiment, the use of a microscope in microbiological research, 3D design and model building, programming robots and drones, as well as statistical processing of economic data
Information sessions on healthy lifestyles and risk prevention in RDS (April-November)
The information sessions will address topics such as HIV/AIDS prevention, drug use and alcohol consumption. Led by health professionals, they will include interactive discussions and educational activities to make the topics more accessible to young people. The main goal of the sessions is to educate about 1,000 young people on the risks associated with unhealthy behaviors and to promote a responsible lifestyle.
Cross-border conference "Youth and their role in the European integration process" (May 8-10)
The conference will last three days and will bring together at least 50 young people from Cahul and its sister cities in Romania. The event will feature panels on the current situation of young people in the Republic of Moldova, including their problems and interests, on European integration and the future generation, on youth policies and young leaders.
Europe Day Marathon (25 May)
The Europe Day Marathon aims to encourage the participation of at least 100 young people at national and international level in a sporting event held on five and 10 km routes in the southern region of the country. The aim of the activity is to promote the commitment of young people to practicing sport and to strengthen an active community.
Student and Pupil Conference "Opportunities for Engaging Youth in Research" (May)
The 2024 annual conference organized by Cahul State University will also be open to high school students. The innovative format will include communication sessions, posters and a paper competition. The event will bring together Moldovan students and high school students, as well as students from the sister cities of Romania and Ukraine, strengthening cultural and academic ties between the countries.
Weekly cultural evenings for youth (June 1 – August 31)
Weekly cultural evenings for youth will be organized during the three summer months and will include activities such as outdoor film screenings, concerts, literary evenings dedicated to young writers, etc. Over 500 young people will participate in them.
Velo marathon (June 3)
The Velo marathon in Cahul aims to attract participants of all ages from across the country and aims to strengthen the community in promoting cycling and sustainable mobility.
Football Fest (live broadcast of the EURO 2024 Championship) (July 9-14)
Football Fest involves a series of events held in the context of UEFA EURO 2024, the purpose of which is to promote sports among young people. Thus, between July 9-14, football matches from EURO 2024 will be broadcast live in Independence Square in Cahul.
International Youth Day "ZIT Cahul 2024 " (August 11-12)
International Youth Day 2024 is an event dedicated to the active involvement of young people to promote, motivate and capitalize on their potential within the community. Through interactive activities, personal development sessions, exhibitions and a special concert, ZIT 2024 encourages the participation of approximately 2,000 young people in social and cultural activities, contributing to personal development and community strengthening.
Roundtable "Cahul and Vaslui - National Youth Capitals 2024" (September)
This activity aims to bring together youth structures and young people from two cities, youth capitals: Cahul (Republic of Moldova) and Vaslui (Romania) for a discussion table. The event will also include an exchange of experiences between participants.
National Hackathon for Start-ups (October)
The hackathon encourages innovation among young people aged 16 to 29 from the Republic of Moldova to generate solutions and prototypes of start-ups in just 72 hours. Teams, consisting of two to five members, will be guided by mentors from the IT and business fields. The most creative ideas will be awarded.
Autumn School "Constitution - Fundamental Law" (October)
The autumn school will involve 30 students from grades X-XII, selected through a public call. The activity will focus on topics such as: the rights and obligations of citizens of a country, the separation of powers in the state, the roles of state institutions. Its goal is to provide students with a solid foundation in understanding their rights and responsibilities as citizens, as well as to provide them with a clear perspective on the political and legal system of the state.
"Youth and Community" Contest (October)
The contest aims to promote culture and intelligence among young people from high schools in Cahul district, involving 100 students and 10 teachers. This event will increase cohesion among participants, thus contributing to community development.
Roundtable on the National Volunteering Day "European Year of Skills" (November)
The activity involves a meeting of young people with representatives from the youth sector (youth centers, NGOs). Its purpose is to explain, understand and debate European skills for young people.
