Cahul - City of Sportsmen: Results of International and National Competitions from May 24-26

The city of Cahul continues to confirm its status as a true nursery of sports talents, thanks to the hard work and constant effort of the local sports clubs, coaches and schools. During May 24-26, Cahul athletes achieved exceptional results at international and national competitions, demonstrating their talent and dedication.

For four days, the zonal stage of the Moldovan Volleyball Championship for girls under 14 took place in the hall of Sports School No. 1 in Cahul, bringing together teams from the Southern Region: Comrat, Copceac, Ceadîr-Lunga, Cantemir and Cahul. The team of Sports School No. 1 in Cahul, coached by Aliona and Evghenii Hariton, took second place and qualified for the final of the Moldovan Championship, which will be held in Chisinau starting on May 22, 2024.
ADCC Amateur World Championship 2024 (grappling), Warsaw, Poland
The "Wolf Pack Academy" Sports Club from Cahul participated in the ADCC Amateur World Championship on May 25-26, alongside 700 participants from 38 countries and 160 academies. The Cahul residents achieved impressive results:
- First place: Popazu David, Vrabii David, Fiodorov Ivan, Boiatiuc Alexandr, Gaidașenco Dumitru.
- 1st place: Best academy.
The fact that we are a young generation, the preparations for such competitions are going on continuously, every day, morning and evening. It is quite monotonous, but the effort and team spirit make us strong. We hope that, if the authorities of the Republic of Moldova support us, we will end up raising the flag on the world arenas in the United States of America, the United Arab Emirates and Brazil. - said Mircea Bragagiu, the club's coach.
Moldovan and Transnistrian Powerlifting Championship, Bender
Between May 25-26, athletes from Cahul participated in the Moldovan and Transnistrian Powerlifting Championship and achieved remarkable results:
- Maxim Banov: 1st place in the submasters category and 3rd place in the open category (total: 457.5 kg).
- Hamhadera Iacov: Absolute junior champion in the category up to 100 kg (total: 715 kg).
- Chiosa Denis: 1st place in the junior category up to 90 kg.
- Anastasia Dermenji: 1st place in the junior category up to 75 kg.
Remarkable performances of Cahul chess players
The Cahul Chess Center participated, between May 25-26, in a chess tournament in Tulcea, Romania, where they achieved impressive results:
- Jurcan Nicolae: IU 8th place
- Mihai Elias: 3rd place U 8
- Beatrice Butuc: IFU 8th place
- Panisco Alexandru: 3rd place U 10
These results reflect the effort and dedication of the athletes, coaches and clubs from Cahul.
