    Who are the winners of the Classic Chess Tournament "Cup of the Municipality of Cahul"

     Between May 31 and June 2, 2024, Cahul hosted the Classic Chess Tournament "Cahul Municipality Cup", organized with the support of the Cahul Municipality City Hall. The event brought together chess players from various localities, including Cahul, Comrat, Ungheni, Basarabeasca and Galați, Romania, and was structured into two groups: FIDE-certified players and beginner children.

     The participants from Cahul demonstrated a remarkable performance, managing to occupy leading positions in most categories. In the U16 category, Andrian Mocanu took second place, while Bogdan Butuc and Alexandru Panisco took second and third places in the U10 category. In the U9 category, Alexandru Leon climbed to second place. In the senior group, Andrei Dermanchi and Veaceslav Bondarev finished in fourth and fifth places.

    The tournament for beginners was full of emotions and enthusiasm. The results of this competition were impressive:

    • 2nd place: Vadim Tafratov
    • 3rd place: Igor Tătaru
    Category U8 Girls:
    • 1st place: Polina Hudoba
    • 2nd place: Ana-Maria Vîrtos
    • 3rd place: Aura Tîmbalist
    Category U10:
    • 1st place: Sergiu Casapu
    • 2nd place: Timur Iarîm
    • 3rd place: Eduard Cernei
    Category U10 Girls:
    • 1st place: Beatrice Butuc
    Category U12:
    • 1st place: Valentin Gîrnet
    Category U14:
    • 1st place: Anton Osadcenco

     This tournament highlighted the talent and dedication of young chess players from Cahul, demonstrating that the city is a true bastion of intellectual sports. During the event, participants had the opportunity to develop their skills, make new friends, and enjoy the competitive spirit of chess.
