Short description
The "Avionul" monument is located at the exit from the municipality towards Vulcănești. On an artificial mound of earth, erected on the left side of the road, the wreckage of a fighter plane was fixed, placed in a position ready for takeoff. The monument was inaugurated on August 24, 1985, dedicated to the memory of the pilots who participated in the air battles in the skies of Cahul. Until recently, on the concrete wall supporting the mound of earth there was a plaque with the inscription, in Russian, "To the liberating pilots from the grateful Cahulians". Following maintenance works in the summer of 2020 (repainting the plane and the supporting wall), the mention on the plaque was erased.
