Short description
The bust of Grigore Vieru (1935 – 2009) was unveiled on July 6, 2014, during the events marking the Cahul City Days. Made by sculptor Ion Zderciuc, the bust was inaugurated during a festive ceremony organized in the city’s “Grigore Vieru” Central Park, in the presence of local and central officials, as well as from Romania, who came especially for this event. The poet’s name and years of life were engraved on the bust’s base (“GRIGORE VIERU / 1935 – 2009”). Inaugurated 5 years after the poet’s passing into eternity, the bust of Grigore Vieru was intended to be the first in a planned “Alley of Personalities” in Cahul, but also a tribute to the one who, on his way to eternity, set off from Cahul.
